Totem of Defiance - Skaen Totem Locations - Avowed Guide - IGN (2025)

The Totem of Defiance quest sets you on a treasure hunt for all seven fragments of Skaen's God Totem in Emerald Stair to create The Schemer's Offering. This guide will show you where to look to find all the Scales of the Oathbinder pieces in Avowed.

Skaen God Totem Fragment Locations

There are seven fragments to find in Emerald Stair, and you can use them to create The Schemer's Offering God Totem in your camp to benefit from the passives listed above.

The Schemer’s Offering Clues

Now, we’ll show you where to purchase the clues for each fragment location. If you’re uninterested in solving these riddles, move down the guide to see specific details on where to find each God Totem fragment, starting with its base.

A vendor named Lluisa Melcer sells the clues at the Farmer's Market, just west of where you enter Emerald Stair. She doesn’t start a side quest like Sanza, so you can buy the clues and be on your way.

The Schemer’s Offering Totem Base Location

The Schemer’s Offering totem base is found at the Shrine to Skaen – a large tower west of Tama’s Cabin. There are a few Exquisite-level purple enemies nearby, so be careful when approaching the area.

The God Totem fragment is at the top of the tower, so you need to platform your way to the top. The lowest ledges are near glowing, blue mushrooms at the bottom of the tower.

Idol of Covert Plots Location

The Idol of Covert Plots is inside an old church in the Grim Wetlands. Walk into the swamp northwest of the Grim Wetlands party camp to find a shack with a barred door.

Defeat the skeletons outside and walk around the left side of the shack to find a statue and a stone door. Press the hidden button on the statue's lantern to open the stone door and find the God Totem fragment inside.

You can also enter the building from the Infested Camp cliff to the west and jump inside from the hole in the roof. Be ready to fight mushroom-type enemies if you decide to take this route.

Sacrificial Dagger Location

The Sacrificial Dagger is stuck in the outside wall of a shack in the Abandoned Farms area of the map. It's northwest of the Rolling Crags party camp and directly north of Fior mes Iverno.

There's a group of xaurips with a bounty on their heads inside the farmland, so be careful when approaching the shack to grab the dagger.

Idol of Secret Hatred Location

The Idol of Secret Hatred is inside a mini-dungeon called the Ancient Grotto, and its interior isn't visible on the main Emerald Stair map. The dungeon is located directly between the Overgrown Homestead and Naku Tedek Grounds. If you accept the Old Nuna bounty in Fior mes Iverno, the quest marker will lead you right to the Ancient Grotto.

Jump into the pool of water next to the wide area where Old Nuna is sleeping, then take a long underwater swim until you're able to resurface.

Follow the linear path until you drop down a ledge. Look for another narrow path marked by a green torch. This narrow tunnel takes you to a skeleton lying next to the God Totem fragment.

Effigy Necklace Location

The Effigy Necklace is inside Naku Tedek – a dungeon found inside the Naku Tedek Grounds. You'll come to this location naturally during the Ancient Soil main quest.

Make a left after going down a long spiral staircase on the way to the root of the Adra pillar. Use Giatta's electric ability to power the Essence Generator on the wall and open a secret room.

Once inside the room, use an ice grenade to make a platform on the water. Use the platform to climb the giant root and reach a ledge on the other side of the room where the God Totem fragment is waiting to be collected.

Idol of Violent Rebellion Location

The Idol of Violent Rebellion is found on top of the Ranger Headquarters to the east. Go to the Ranger Headquarters on the far east side of the map, directly east of Fior mes Iverno. Climb to the very top of the lookout tower to find the God Totem fragment next to a huge signal fire. There's also a chest up there with Awakened Adra inside.

Obsidian Prayer Beads Location

The Obsidian Prayer Beads are waiting on the far west side of the map, in the westernmost part of the Delemgan Glade. You come here during The Animancy Method main quest, so don’t worry if you can’t find it right away.

Climb the cliff face using ledges and tree branches to reach a platform overlooking the entire glade. The God Totem fragment is sitting on the ground next to a skeleton.
